Moondance's lithe white body jumped over the barrier into the moors. The open plains rolled on... rabbits twitched their whiskers and bounded away. But her interests where in other places now... even her favorite thing could not draw her away from what she must do. As she neared a crevice, so none could see or hear, she paused, and turned about.

Darkwing was huffing now, so mesmerized by Moondance's sheer speed he had stopped following her for only a minute just to watch her streak away with an open mouth. She looked like a radiant ghost among the moorgrass. Her paws had skimmed so carefully Darkwing wondered with an intrigued thought how carefree she must be. However, as the deputy always over analyzed things, the idea was replaced with a sad notion. Oh, how Moondance must hate him. So, free from the troubling thoughts, Darkwing bounded after her again and settled next to her in the crevice Darkwing never knew existed.
Though she could not see him, there was genuine pain in Darkwing's pale green eyes. "Moondance..." he began, touching her shoulder with the tip of his tail. "I am so sorry if I made you feel worthless."

Moondance looked away, though she could not see, and stared into the trees, of where she knew they were. "Darkwing, it is I who must apoligize. I have insulted your courage and bravery, your intelligence as well. The fight was worthless... so pointless too." She looked down to where her snowy white paws sat, not knowing the colors, not knowing the way her eyes sparkled when she smiled, how they dulled when she brought forward tears. She could never know... but a miracle may show someday...

Darkwing shook his head in a fruitless effort to make her understand. Leaning forward, the deputy touched her cheek with his nose. Words werehard for any tom to bring out, so Darkwing had no choice but to trust in Moondance that she understood his simple gestures. Almost instantly he pulled back like it never happened. "You know as well as I do that is not true. Moondance, you have the right to hate me with every hair on your pelt. Even in the most senseless battles, true warriors fight with their Clan. I was at fault when I pushed you away." And I wanted to protect you, he thought of saying, but then decided to hide it under his tongue.

[muse gone]
Moondance stood quietly, her lips pulled tight together. Darkwing made her fur tingle, her heart race...
