Deadly Fight

Iceflower stepped out of her den, leaving her sleeping apprentice behind. It was dark, the night surrounding the camp. Every other cat was sleeping, but when she caught a pair of sharp eyes watching her she realized that wasn't true. She stopped in her tracks, staring back and trying to determine who the eyes belonged to, but then she continued on her way. Starclan had told her they wanted her at the Shady Marsh, but she didn't know why. Her tail flicked behind her as she crawled under the bramble entrance and out of camp.

Eagleclaw stepped silently out of his hiding position, something didn't seem right with this cat. His eyes darted swiftly around the camp, trying to decifer what it means. With his body brushing the newly dewed grass he followed Iceflower slowly out into the adventure of a lifetime.

Iceflower ran through the marsh, trying to find the place she had seen in her dream. Slowing her pawsteps down by the swamp, she grimaced in distaste as her paws sunk into the mud. She looked around cautiously, not sure what was out there, but trusting Starclan with their decision. A sudden gust of wind would have blown her off of her feet had they not been 2 inches deep in mud, but it did bring to her the scent of a following cat. Whipping around, she fell onto her side as her paws refused to budge. Laying poorly in the wet and sucking mud, she looked up into the eyes of Eagleclaw, a fellow Shadowclanner. Is this why Starclan had sent her? To talk to Eagleclaw?

'What are you doing?' he asked, looking down to the medicine cat, in the mud. "What do you want?"

Iceflower was confused before a pang of irritation overtook her. "What do you mean 'what do I want'? You followed me!" After she had spoken, she regretted the harsh words because of the sudden anger in Eagleclaw's eyes. ShadowClan cats were noted for this, but Eagleclaw seemed worse than the others. Trying to struggle to her feet to no avail, she laid in the wet mud and stared up at him with desperate eyes.

Eagelcalw was getting angrier and angrier. This she-cat was crazy. She was doing something... But he didn't know what. "Why did you sneak out of camp Iceflower? You know its wrong, why did you do it? Is there something wrong in camp? Or are you backing out on the clan?" he asked staring her down with his merciless eyes. They had turned red in anger and he looked bloodthirsty.

Iceflower frantically shook her head in fear before a realization came over her that she had superiority over him in a sense, being the medicine cat and all. Taking the time to rise to her paws shakily, she stood unsteadily before him. "Not that it's any of your business," she began with a calm, yet somehow angry voice, "but I was given a dream from StarClan to be here. Even you, Eagleclaw, wouldn't dare to question StarClan." Eying him, she tried to walk around him, but her paws were once again stuck in the sucking mud that dripped off one side of her coat in clumps.

Eagleclaw narrowed his eyes at the cat, "I knew you would say something absurd like that." Eagleclaw pushed the cat deeper into the mud with his massive paws from his point on a flat rock.

Iceflower attempted to struggle, to break away in some way, but she couldn't move. Even deeper in the mud, she thought about calling out for help, but she knew no one would come. Closing her eyes, she silently prayed to Starclan in a last effort for help. Opening her sharp eyes, she snapped at Eagleclaw. "What are you going to do? If you kill me, you can't go back." She knew what was going to happen, suddenly knew why Starclan had sent her here. It was her time. Making a last effort to buy for time, she snarled.

Eagleclaw said, "Killing is a harsh word," he said and he plunged her world in darkness.
