Sleek black fur, dark as a hidden tunnel underground, strode through the marsh. Wet mud sucked her paws down into the ground, but she ignored it as best she could. Not sure what to expect, she padded around the tall reeds until she reached a muddied pool of water. A frog croaked in the distance, and her ear flicked to catch the sound in it's satellite like shape. Her whiskers twitched as she stared out across the wet land before her.
She knew she should feel good about her new position, but she didn't. For no reason, she couldn't be happy. She had been told by other cats that she was lucky she was accepted into ShadowClan, given her kittypet background. They had said she was only accepted since ShadowClan desperately needed Queens because of the growing number of kits...but she tried to think differently. She must have some other skill? Flicking her head irritably to rid herself of the dispiriting thoughts, she blinked wide eyes. Maybe one day soon she would make friends in her new clan. Who knew wandering around in the forest would bring about such a future?
She knew she was different from the glares and angry whispers she got around the other ShadowClan cats. She was desperate for friends, and would accept friendship from any cat willing to give it. Looking to the midnight sky, she sent a silent prayer to StarClan for guidance. Was there a StarClan, and could they help? She hoped all she was told was true about the mystical clan...that they helped cats of all kinds. She really could use it now...

The glittering moonlight cast upon his onyx pelt, making it shine. It looked, in the light, as if it was actually midnight blue, this was how sleek it was. The sleekness would be, of course, better suited to a slender, graceful cat. Pantherpaw, however, was neither, and yet he was adorned with a most beautiful coat.
If it was just his pelt that others looked at, prehaps he would not be teased the way he was. His body was overly large for his age. Yes, he was approaching warrior-hood, indeed he should be one soon, but he was still, all in all, a young cat. However, he had a body of a hardened warrior. His legs, oddly, seemed to thin out. And yet, as if to counteract that, his paws were massive, out of place.
He lept forward, and landed, digging his long claws into the ground. He could only hope that one day he would grow into his body, and become the large cat he was promised to be. Is this some cruel trick, Starclan? Am I meant to be forever ridiculed? Never given what I deserve? He growled, and he liked how menacing it sounded.
Something moved in the grass ahead of him. He paused, listening. He could hear a very faint heartbeat, and yet no heat came from the area. When the creature moved, he finally pinpointed its long body on the ground. It was a snake. No, he would not eat it, and nor would his clan, but it would be a challenge, and he liked that. And so, he leaned back, before charging forward.
He landed on the snake, which instantly turned, trying to bite into the apprentice's onyx leg. When it latched on, Pantherpaw felt heat flood through his paw. Growling, he flung himself away, escaping the snake. Once he had gone a good distance, he leaned down, and began licking the small wound. It would be fine, he knew.
He continued on, now extremly bitter. He stopped suddenly, upon hearing a noise that told him yet another living creature was nearby. When he pushed through the marsh, he caught sight of a fellow Shadowclanner.
He recognized the she-cat as Ghostfur. She was, he knew, of kitty pet beginnings. And yet, somehow, he didn't care. He knew that she must feel like quite an outcast, and sometimes, so did he. With paws like his...he just felt like he didn't belong.
"Ghostfur?" He muttered, coming out into the opening, and fixing the she-cat with an odd look.

Ghostfur whipper her head around, eyes wide and scared for a few seconds before she closed them, opening them again to stare at the apprentice with her golden orbs. She rose to her feet, flicking her tail behind her. She tried to hide the mixed emotions that she was sure covered her face, but she didn't think it worked. It never did.
She sighed, dropping her head so her chin touched her chest. Her tail hung low to the ground and she watched a small ant trying to fight it's way to StarClan knows where. She admired that ant. He was a fighter, brave and strong. She didn't feel that she possessed either one of those traits, yet she picked up her head to again glance at the ShadowClan apprentice.
"Hello, Pantherpaw." She tried to make her voice sound kind, like she imagined a queen's would, but she detected the desperate tone to her voice. Mentally chiding herself, she forced a fake smile onto her face. Her paws shuffled against the wet ground as she waited to see what the tom would say to her. In the back of her mind, she acknowledged what she had heard some of the other warriors say about the mismatched apprentice. Shooing them away, she noticed he was actually quite handsome.

The desperate look in Ghostfur's eyes did not go unnoticed by the black apprentice. Nor did the shine of her own onyx coat, nor the glitter of her eyes. Pantherpaw cleared his throat, clearing his mind of such thoughts. Although she was very pretty...but what was he thinking? He was nothing but a apprentice with too-big paws, and she was a queen. Kitless, as far as he knew, but a queen nonetheless.
"Its pretty dark for a walk." Pantherpaw commented, sitting on his haunches and fixing his crimson eyes on the she-cat. He wouldn't comment on her obvious distress, he wouldn't ask about it. It was none of his business, and she would likely tell him so. She would be like the others...she would think he was nothing but a nosy, ugly apprentice.
But there are others who do not think so. Pantherpaw's own eyes took on a silent look of desperation, but he said nothing. Oh, they think so all right. They just don't say it to your face. He reprimended himself.

Ghostfur gave a small smile with one corner of her mouth as she dipped her head. "Yes." She was afraid to say too much, not wanting to give away her feelings. She was secretly afraid that the apprentice would laugh at her for being so desperate; that he would tell her she wasn't a real Shadowclanner if she harbored these types of feelings. She flicked her ears to rid herself of these thoughts, and made up her mind to talk anyways. She wasn't one to go for what she wanted, but this tom seemed nice as well as handsome. He could be a good friend.
"How is it going, Pantherpaw?" She asked him, knowing of the way he was treated by others. She had been surprised he had come over to speak to her given his general demeanor, but she definitely would not turn down conversation, especially not from him. Again, with the thoughts. She ran a rough pink tongue over her black fur, smoothing it down as her mind raced hundreds of miles ahead of their conversation. She closed her golden eyes for a moment to get control again over her wandering mind, but she soon re-opened them to look into his.

Normally, Pantherpaw would have turned the other way, and done everything to avoid the she-cat. But for some reason, he had been drawn to her company. The look that had been in her eyes stuck in his mind, but he shook his head. She wouldn't appreciate pity. Of course, laughing was the farthest thing in his mind. He knew what it was like to wish for a friend, for anybody.
"As well as one could hope. You, Ghostfur? How're you?" He asked, sitting back on his haunches.

Dragonflower padded glumily through the dark brownish/ black mud of the marsh. Every couple of steps she shook mud from her paws. The blackish mud went flying into the air and it landed on the muddy ground. Dragonflower kept walking. She suddenly stopped and sniffed the air. She smelled other cats around but it was hard for her to make out who it was since the marsh hid their scent. She crouched low and stalked foward. .............................

Ghostfur gave a small, tight smile as she replied, her eyes closing in a signal of happiness. "Just fine." Opening her eyes to show they held a sad, neglected look in them she continued. "As well as any kittypet Shadowclanner could be treated anyways..." Trailing off as a scent hit her nostrils, her ears perked and she turned her yellow eyes to the grass.
Wrapping her tail unconsciously around Pantherpaw, she crouched low and tried to see the stalker's paws under the brush, but couldn't make any out against the background of ferns. Leaning to the side, again without realizing it as she brushed up against Pantherpaw, she muttered lowly so only he wold hear. "I must be hearing things..."

Pantherpaw felt a prickle of pity at the she-cats words. So, he had been right in guessing that she was feeling out of touch, because of her kittypet origins. Pantherpaw frowned, but was pulled from his stupor as Ghostfur suddenly straightened. He felt a flush of warmth spread through his face as suddenly, quite suddenly, her tail wrapped around him.
But suddenly, he thought he heard a noise. And he was sure that it was the same thing Ghostfur had heard. His suspisions were confirmed when the latter muttered in his ear. Without replying, Pantherpaw crouched backwords, and lept forward, in the direction he thought he heard the noise from. He was hoping to surprise whoever was hiding there...

Dragonflower's ears picked up the sound of a couple of cats talking. She could not tell who it was from their voice either since she mostly avoided every one. Dragonflower's fur began to rise while she waited in the shadows. Her greenish eyes adapted to the darkness but she still could not see the other cats. Annoied, Draginflower lashed her solid black tail. It made leaves rusle.

Ghostfur's satellite ears turned in the direction of the rustling grass, suddenly knowing there was someone there. Turning her nose to the air to rely on that sense, she could only smell the strong scent of summer in the reeds. Her senses were shot, and she became scared. Looking for where Pantherpaw had disappeared to, she cowered in silence, alone and afraid.

Pantherpaw came stalking back from the bushes, having found nothing. He returned to where he had been sitting, next to Ghostfur, and sighed slightly. Some hunter he was, when he couldn't even find another cat. His tail twitched in annoyance, as did his ears.
"Whos there? Are you a Shadowclan cat, or someone more sinister?" He called. He hoped that it was just another warrior of his clan, because otherwise a fight could follow this short exchanged.
Pantherpaw glanced over at Ghostfur, who seemed nervous.

Dragonflower stepped diffiantly out of the cover of her friends, the shadows. She noticed Pantherpaw and Ghostfur. Dragonflower let out a sigh of relief as she padded foward. Her fur began to lie back down again. She sat down and started to lick her chest fur. When she was done she looked at both of the other shadowclan cats. "Sorry a gave you two such a scare," Dragonflower meowed.

Ghostfur didn't seem to settle down, if anything she tensed up more. She found part of herself wishing that it had been a cat from another clan, or even a badger or fox. That she could handle; they didn't know her like this cat did, like all ShadowClan cats thought they did. She was tired of being ridiculed, and now she would be ridiculed in front of Pantherpaw, who she really liked. What's worse, she could bring him down with her if she wasn't careful.
Ducking her head to hide the swirling emotions in her golden orbs, she flicked her tail in the air in a lazy gesture of relief. Letting go of a breath she didn't know she had been holding, she allowed herself to lean against the ShadowClan apprentice before realizing what she was doing and quickly sitting upright again, embarrassed eyes finding Dragonflower's and hoping the warrior didn't notice her slip up. And worse...Pantherpaw definitely would have noticed.

Dragonflower's green-ish eyes caught a little movement. Then she saw that it was Ghostfur leaning a little on Pantherpaw, a shadowclan apprentice. A growl rose in her throat as she witnessed the scene in front of her. 'Yuck,' Drogonflower scoffed under her breath. Then her eyes narrowed. She felt that she was being controlled by something more powerful that starclan. 'What am I doing? What goten in to me, this is not how I usauly am!', Dragonflower thought. Soon she began to pant heavily as she tried to controll her self. Dragonflower looked left and right, seaming to look for a way out. 'What is in me,' Dragonflower thought, a silent hiss escaped her mouth.
