A white she-cat was padding near the small river, her black paws guiding her back and forth, and her blue eyes searching for fish in the water. Pureheart was alert for fish, not letting her shadow touch the water. A silvery flash down in the water, and with a strike from her paw, Pureheart was able to get out a yumy dinner. Placing the newly-cought fish on top of other three ones she had caught before, she looked once more in the water, waiting for another treat. One more and I'll go put this in the fresh-kill pile She thought. But the bushes behind her shook, and Pureheart could feel the precense of somebody. Her black tail twiched and her black ears perked, was there some one coming? Or something?

Sparklepaw stepped forward, her gray pelt distinctive against the ferns behind her. She purred in greeting.
"Looks like you're doing good, Pureheart." She smiled at the warrior, knowing one day soon she too would be one. Her ears flicked nervously, and she stepped forward. Sparklepaw wasn't a very social cat, and only really talked to her close friends. She sat at the edge of the river, staring into it. A small sliver of strange scent wafted in the air, and Sparklepaw wadded into the river to rid herself of the Thunderclan scent before Pureheart recognized it. She stayed in the water for a few moments before padding back onto the shore and turning to the warrior.
"I'm sorry! I must have scared away all the fish," she commented sincerely, shaking the water from her pelt and laying out to dry in the warm sun.

"Oh, hi Sparklepaw." Pureheart greeted. A strange smell hit her nosetrills, and she suddenly saw Sparklepaw jump into the water. She sighed, "Yes, you did scare it all, but it is ok, I have ebough prey right here." She smiled sweetly at the apprentice, but that strange smell was still in the air. Soon, she recognized it, "Why does it smell like if Thunderclan was here?" She put her nose in the air, smelling, just following the scent. But it lead to nowhere, Thunderclan was not here, only Sparklepaw and her. Pureheart stopped sniffing, Sparklepaw! She turned to the apprentice in the water, "Where have you been lately? I haven't seen you around in a while.." Her blue eyes narrowed a bit, her black ears went down. "Sparklepaw, have you been near Thunderclan?"OOC: Muahaha! Suspence!

[[LOL]]
Sparklepaw recoiled in surprise, her mouth opening. She meowed to the warrior,
"Just border patrol. Sorry." She ducked her head to hide the guilty look in her eyes, and her fur was warmed all through with thoughts she kept inside. Her fur bristled slightly, and a cool wind blew through, making her sigh as she was relieved of the heat.

"So border-patrol heh?" Pureheart meowed. "That might just explain it..." She smiled again, as if approving what Sparklepaw just said. But she felt uneasy but Sparklepaw's words, somethign was just wring there, but she just overlooked it. Nah, there's nothing wrong. She's telling me the truth. She told herself. "Would you like to help me fish a while? But it might take a while till fish come back since you jumped into the water." Pureheart sujested.

Sparklepaw laughed uneasily, not comfortable with lying to her friends and clanmates. She nodded and padded over to where Pureheart sat, sitting down and staring into the water, getting lost in thought as she waited for some unlucky fish to swim past.

Pureheart's eyes were locked on the water, waiting for the fish. But her mind was wondering. Why do I feel there is something wrong, there isn't! Sparklepaw is NOT lying to me, I know that, she wouldn't go to Thunderclan for any reason! She is a loyal apprentice, and trustworthy, I just feel there is something wrong. But.. where? why? She shook her head to banish those thoughts. "have you seen anything yet?" Pureheart whispered.

Sparklepaw shivered, sensing Pureheart's confusion.
"No," she whispered. She felt horrible for lying, and wanted to blurt the truth. She couldn't risk being banned from her clan, friends and family.

"I don't either.." Pureheart confessed, "Why don't we just go back to the camp? C'me on, help me carry this fish to the fresh-kill pile." She stood up and picked two fish in her jaws, signalling Sparklepaw to follow with her tail. But she saw the troubled look in the apprentice's eyes. "Is everything alright?" She meowed throught the fish in her mouth.

Sparklepaw was quick to nod, shaking herself free of her thoughts and rushing forward to grab the extra fish in her jaws, careful not to bite down. She padded beside Pureheart, shoulder to shoulder.

Back at the camp ---
Pureheart placed the fish she caught in the fresh-kill pile. She looked over her shoulder to see if Sparklepaw was behind her. Licking her own white shoulder, she sat down and took a treat.

A young light brown tom padded out of the reeds, he had dark brown spots fading across his pelt and the same dark color edging his eyes, ears, and tail. Cedarheart stopped suddenly, "What's with all the silence?" The tom asked in a tone that was half serious and half joking.

Sparklepaw picked up her head from her washing to look at the new arrival. She didn't recognize him, although she knew he was in her clan she couldn't place a name to him. She went back to her washing since she didn't have an honest answer for him. She was tired of lying. She kept her eyes on him.

Pureheart looked up. "Oh, Hi Cedarheart. Nothing, we just came back from fishing. Would you like to join us on a meal?" She said, gulping a bite from the fish.

Cedarheart looked at the fish, his voice going straight to seriousness, "Did you take prey to the Clan first?" He stuck to the warrior code like a newborn kit to its mother.
