He took a deep breath as he left the warriors den. It had been a week since he'd seen Rosethorn. He stretched his legs and yawned. His angled ears perked high as robins chirped. The day was lovely. He left camp ignoring his flicking tail. Maybe a halfclan relationship could work. He'd rarely see his kits...but he'd know they existed. Longclaw trotted to the border. Maybe Rosethorn would be here. He hoped she would. The Riverclan warrioress wouldn't be easy to talk to at a gathering. He froze as rabbit came into view. His mind alert with senses. He stopped though. Letting the prey go. No way would he cross the border.

Palestar's patrol decided to patrol the ShadowClan border. It consisted of Palestar, Frozencreek, and Rosethorn.
Palestar felt nervous. She had just returned from her trip to Moonpool, and wanted to show the other Clans that there was a new leader in charge of RiverClan. She chatted away on things that needed to be done. "We should probably expand the warriors den, and the thorns are getting to close to the nursery..."
Frozencreek nodded along with what Palestar was saying to him. "Yes, there are a lot of warriors and soon to be warriors. And the thorns should be pulled back," he followed the conversation. He wanted to prove himself more than ever to his leader.
Rosethorn stayed out of the conversation. She couldn't seem to keep her mind on what the other warriors were talking about, but couldn't keep her mind off of Longclaw. She wished that she could see him again, but also wished that she wouldn't have to be rejected once more. She stayed right along the border lines, hoping to catch his scent. Her heart was heavy and bitter, but she knew she couldn't hold that against Longclaw.

The lithe warrior perked up when he heard voices. Though none were Rosethorn. He stepped out seeing the three warriors. "Greetings Palefoot, Frozencreek and Rosethorn" He meowed curtly. Though Palefoot probably had her name, if he called her Palestar it would be disrespectful as no others knew. His amber gaze lingered on Rosethorn. She seemed...distracted, no that wasn't the word, dejected. Pity filled his heart. She probably hated him. Though he didn't know why she would...He sighed. He wouldn't be able to tell her his decision with Palestar and Frozencreek right here. She probably didn't care.

"Good morning, Longclaw. And it is Palestar now. I hope all is well and that you stay on your side of the border while you are near," Palestar joked. She didn't mind since she and her warriors were there. One non-hostile warrior was fine, as long as he wasn't going to take her new position away from her.
"Yes, hello," Frozencreek echoed. He was anxious to keep moving on the patrol, and check thing out near WindClan and ThunderClan. He spotted some juniper berries near the oak tree, a few tail-lengths away."Perhaps we should keep moving, Palestar? We need to get though before twilight. Rosethorn, Spottedpelt said that she was running low on juniper berries. Do you mind gathering a bunch and taking them to her? You could hunt on your way also..."
Rosethorn was not paying attention to what others were saying, but was focused on Longclaw. She couldn't understand what in StarClan why Longclaw had sought her out. After all, he rejected her. "Um, oh, yes. Of course, juniper berries. I will do that for you," she mewed dazedly (is that a word?).
Palestar and Frozencreek left the scene, chatting away on what they had to do, and what would make them better.

Longclaw dipped his head. "Leafstar had a short but kind leadership. I am sure you will lead greatly." He said after Palestar corrected him. Then like a sign from Starclan they left without Rosethorn. Once he was sure they were gone he stepped closer. "Rosethorn, I know your mad at me...But I have to tell you something. I hate that it took me so long to realize. But I can't stop thinking about you...I want you to be my mate" The words nearly stuck to his throat. Longclaw hoped she said yes, it had taken all his guts to decide on breaking the code.

Rosethorn was indeed upset with Longclaw. Once she'd heard what Longclaw had said, her heart swelled with joy. As happy as she was, she didn't understand his change of heart."But, what about- what about what your adoptive mother did? What about what you had said, about them getting teased? I couldn't live with myself if I had guilted you into..." she asked.

He blinked in surprise. She though he couldn't decide for himself. "What does my adoptive mother have to do with this? She was an exceptionally cruel warrior. No, you haven't guilted me into anything. Like you said, if the clan finds out...Palestar will help protect them. This isn't about kits...This is about you and me. I realized that my heart is with you..." He said his eyes wide.

Rosethorn's eyes began to well. It was her he had wanted after all. "You have no idea what that means to me to hear you say that. I want to be with you, I only wish that we wouldn't have to hide it. I've thought about this, and realize that I would risk everything to be with you because I love you," she poured her feelings to the object of her heart's desire. She wanted him as well, she wanted to be with him no matter what.

He looked at her the love light in his eyes. He could have rejected her, made her move on. Though he wouldn't be able to live with himself. He stayed on his side of the border. "If only I was a Riverclan warrior, but I must remain loyal to Shadowclan...I doubt Riverclan would accept me anyway." He said slowly. Longclaw sighed glad she had accepted.

Rosethorn purred with happiness. She had convinced him after all. "We can make it work. If Palestar truely wishes to know who the father of my kits would be, I would tell her proudly that you were my mate. No one could be less judging. ShadowClan is where you belong, and there will always be a part of you with me, in RiverClan, no matter what Clan you belong to," she stated fiercely. She came up to Longclaw, and stood before him. She nuzzled him with her muzzle and pressed her head into his cheek, not knowing how he would react.

He sighed in a relaxed tone. Her words soothed him. "Thank Starclan your leader isn't judging...If I were in Riverclan and you in Shadowclan Fernstar would probably banish you...If you were banished I'd go with you" He had just finished when she stepped over the border and nuzzled him. Sweet calm came over him. Oh how long had it been since he felt this at peace? He didn't pull away. Just glad to have contact with Rosethorn.

"As I would go with you. I wouldn't leave you alone, ever. If you were banished, I would follow the stars to find you again. Our kits..." she paused. What would they do about their kits? RiverClan wouldn't judge, but ShadowClan would. Part ShadowClan and RiverClan. They were definately a rainbow of bloodlines.

"They'd be part of every clan...They'd have ancestors in every clan. Would Palestar not be mad about that?" He asked in sorrow. His gaze clouded in pain. It was hard falling in love with another clan cat. Would they even have kits? "They would stay in your clan, but Palestar won't tell other cats? If she does...Our clans are in jeopardy of fighting." He said slowly. Thinking over the horrible battle with Bloodclan.

"I don't believe that anyone doubts our loyalty. Palestar... she wouldn't want another battle, not so soon into her leadership. I can't be sure of anything that will happen. All I know is that, we can make this work. If we are the cause of yet another battle, then we will leave," she decided. She wanted everyone's happiness, but wanted her own too. She wanted kits with Longclaw, but she wanted to be a good warrior as well. Could she do both?

Longclaw sighed. In complete relaxation with her. "I would follow you to Starclan and beyond." He said, wistfully. Thinking of everything. Their kits would be connected to every clan. This was the repeat of his grand parents. Now he understood why they did it. Why they caused pain to his father. Why he father went crazy. This was all so fast. "We can not let anyone else find out. Not even our kits." His eyes held great meaning. Growing up different was painful. "It will be annoying, but atleast wait till their warriors to tell them..." He said slowly. Picking his words carefully.
