Bonefoot, his white pelt shivering, entered Bramblestar's den with both a solemn yet prideful look twitching back anf forth in his dark blue eyes. What he had done was something no one would expect from a deputy. And even more, no one would have suspected of him. He couldn't let the Clan know, and especially not Fireheart. But the stocky tom couldn't hold it from Bramblestar. They had been friends too long. "Bramblestar?" he called in. "It's urgent."

"Is something wrong?" asked Bramblestar. She was lying in a back corner of her den, a piece of fresh kill that an apprentice had brought to her was lying at her paws.

Bonefoot felt a gurgling sound churning in his belly. "Yes...very." He settled himself down next to his leader, his head lowered slightly for added respect. "You know me, Bramblestar. I'm the strict follower of the warrior code, and never would I endanger my Clan because of it. But..but I'm afraid I have broken that oath. Are you willing to hear? If this may upset you, I won't mouth a word."

"Bonedfoot, you are one of my dearest friends, as well as your leader. You are my loyal deputy, and I would like to hear what you have to say," meowed Bramblestar. She couldn't imagine what she might be about to hear. Thoughts swirled around in her head as if it were a churning sea.

Bonefoot lowered his head, shame welling in his chest. "You know the RiverClan she-cat, Fireleaf?" He didn't wait for Bramblestar to answer. "Well, RiverClan is in store for three more warriors...half-RiverClan...half-ThunderClan...and they're my kin." Bonefoot snapped his head to Bramblestar's level. "I know what I did was wrong, but I told Fireleaf that the kits must go to RiverClan; they need warriors more than we do, and I can't abandon ThunderClan. My heart lies here."

Bramblestar shook her head, shocked. "Bonefoot, I can't pretend that I am happy with your descision, but I am not angry with you. I'm shocked, yes, but if you love her, well...this is your descision. I will let you keep you place as deputy, and I won't tell your secret to any cat."

Bonefoot nodded, almost grief striken. Of all the cats, all he could tell was Bramblestar. But the weight had lifted, that's all that's matters. "I do love her..but that doesn't mean I will fight RiverClan in the future. I want my kits to grow strong and tough, just like their father," he snorted playfully. "I promise you this, I will never leave ThunderClan, Fireleaf or not. Yes, I will miss her terribly, but... My duty and heart lies here." Bonefoot looked in Bramblestar's eyes, something he hardly did.

Bramblestar looked back at her powerful deputy. She respected all of the decisions he made, and knew that this love torn between Clan and cat was terribly hard on him. "This will be difficult for you, growing up watching your kits from across Clan borders, but I trust that you will stay loyal to ThunderClan," she meowed in a hushed voice.
