Tigerclaw blinked. Yet another cat he had to deal with. He tried to shrug it off and deal with it. "Hello, Shiningstream," he meowed.

Despite his unfriendly tone, Shiningstream had to assure Tigerclaw that just because she was young, she had a definante wisdom beyond some of her other friends. She nodded back in a respectful gesture. "Hello to you." Turning back to Thornpaw, she sparkled her eyes playfully. "Now don't go being hysterical with a senior warrior. Despite his 'grumpyness'," she flashed an amused look over to Tigerclaw, "He deserves something a bit quieter."

Tigerclaw shrugged. "It does not matter. Now are we hunting or not? I'm sure you two have scared most of the prey away by now."

Shiningstream refused to be angered by Tigerclaw's curt reply. "Fine." She weaved through the bushes. motioning Thornpaw to follow.

Tigerclaw sneered but followed anyway. He could try to be a bit nicer, he decided.

Thornpaw smiled with open amusement, as she strode after Tigerclaw and her mentor Shinningstream. She let the rich scents flow in through her nose and she breathed them out again. The sun shone through the sparkling canopy covering the ground with sun blotched dapples. Suddenly she caught a strange scent in the air. She breathed deeply and let the tangy scent fill her lungs. What is this? She thought curiously. The scent hung fresh in the air, and Thornpaw drank it hungrily, the sharp almost pungent taste filled her lungs. What could this be? She questioned herself again with renewed curiosity. Surly she would have recognized any prey scent. She shot a questioning glance to the warriors wondering if they had caught the interesting scent as well.

Shiningstream too stopped. Lifting her tail for silence, the she-cat took an eager whiff of the air and began to ponder its meaning. It wasn't prey-scent, that much she knew. Very odd. It didn't smell like the Thunderpath, for they were a good distance away from the black sticky path. Could it be... "A fox?" Tangy yes, and she had remembered the scent of fox when she was helping to battle one off when she was an apprentice. If it was or wasn't, she would have to be cautious. "Thornpaw, come here and stay down!"

Thornpaw’s eyes widened in alarm. The urgency in Shinningstream’s tone was unquestionable. Her fur began to rise, her eyes slicing the clearing with precision. The scent still thick in the air, alarmingly think. What had she smell and I had not? I have never encountered such a…interesting smell. She flexed her claws, anticipating this as a not-so-good smell. She raised her hackles, and edged next to her mentor. Her eyes were full of worry, and odd fascination as well. Though a hint of defiance held on the edge of her lips, and excitement quivering in her paws.

Shiningstream layed her tail on Thornpaw's shoulders. "Tigerclaw, come here!" If it was a fox, she needed more warriors. She hadn't taught Thornpaw battle training yet, and just two warriors and a learning apprentice wouldn't do. "Run to camp, get as many warriors as you can." It was a risky thing to do. She was faster than Tigerclaw, being all lithe, but she couldn't leave her apprentice here.

Thornpaw’s fur was on end, as she eyed the clearing warily. What was this lethal scent? She thought with annoyance. If there was a battle to come she would be ready. Her eyes shot her mentor a questioning stare. Questions clouded her mind as she turned once again to the forest in grim anticipation. With Tigerclaw leaving us what chance do we have against this…badger…fox-whatever the cause of panic she wondered if they could face it alone. Her eyes searched the sun dappled surroundings her speckled pelt blended well with the backdrop of the forest.

Shiningstream's fur began to prickle. The scent was becoming strong, and she wasn't certain that she could protect Thornpaw if there were more than one of these foul smellinf creatures. "StarClan, help us through this..." It was a worthless prayer. Now, Shiningstream needed skill and patience to deal with the matter at hand.

The metallic scent wafted in the air making Thornpaw lash her tail in anticipation. “Shinningstream....what?” She mewed quietly. Suddenly the welcoming forest seemed to darken. A small hiss escaped her lips and the hair began to prickle along her back. She stood alert next to Shinningstream, her ears perked and vigilant. She looked through the trees warily ready for action the second the moment came. The apprentice gave her mentor a guarded look and flexed her claws readily.
