"Betcha can't wait 'till you're quick enough to catch one of them," meowed Sparklepaw as she appeared to stand behind the young kit. "When you're an apprentice, your mentor will probably teach you." She quickly shook her pelt to relieve herself of the small water drops that clung to her from the churning river. "Hows the nursery? Sometimes, when the apprentices turn their backs to me to sleep, I miss the nursery." She smiled at Swallowkit.

A cream-colored she-cat padded through the plains, the darker fur on her face like a mask with only her navy blues showing. Nose twitching to make sure there wasn't any unfamiliar scents -- specifically, WindClan scents -- the RiverClan deputy actually seemed relaxed on this little walk. Normally, Winterleaf was known as the smart but paranoid deputy who always felt the other clans were threatening them after her encounter with Breezenight.
The she-cat pounced on a vole that had strayed in her path, putting it out of its misery with a well-aimed claw. Making sure the vole was covered with dirt, Winterleaf mused that she may as well continue hunting. As she opened his jaws to drink in the air, the she-cat fancied that he scented a fellow apprentice and cute kit. Identifying the felines as Sparklepaw and Swallowkit, the she-cat was puzzled as to why their scents weren't stronger. In fact, the sweet scent of the honeysuckles were fighting her nose for its attention. "Hello" Winterleaf's smooth voice spoke as the young deputy headed towards the young Riverclanners.

Sparklepaw looked up at Winterleaf. "Hiya!" she meowed happily, tail twitching. Her nose wiggled as she scented the deputy. "You just got back from a border patrol, didn't you?" she asked. "You smell like Windclan."

Winterleaf's dappled coat bristelled with embarrasment. "Kind of..." she meowed and sighed silently. She brushed her pelt with the lusty ferns that surrounded the river with a grin in her translucent face. "So how have you been doing?" the young she-cat inquired, lifting her eye brow curiously.

Sparklepaw smiled. "Alright. Adjusting to being an apprentice." She stood and stretched. "Everyone here is so nice to me. It's amazing. I never thought with my background that anyone would really want me here." She gave a small embarrassed smile. "I'm always overtalking...I should stop doing that."

Winterleaf chuckled. "Its okay. I'm glad you're feeling good here!" she purred and rose from the bushes that camuflaged her pelt. "Its usually hard to be new to a clan. I have some experience in that. I wasn't clan born neither and it was tough when I tried to make friends. My first friend was Pureheart. She was the only one that spoke to me because the other kits in the nursery thought I was disgusting because of my kittypet heritage..." the she-cat explained but backened away after her words. Her history usually made her new friendship bonds with the others break. Giggling innocently, Winterleaf sat down besides Sparklepaw with her tail neatly curled around her ivory paws.

Sparklepaw nodded. "Ya. I keep feeling like if I hadn't been born from a Shadowclan queen than I wouldn't have any problems at all." She started licking Winterleaf's coat soothingly.

Winterleaf pressed her muzzle over Sparklepaw's flank in return and ducked her head to take a small drink from the river. Her gaze turned to both Riverclanners eagerly. "Wanna come with me to a small hunting patrol?" the dappled she-cat purred and lashed her tail excitedly.

"I'd love to!" Sparklepaw meowed excitedly. She stood quickly, but suddenly thought of something. "I should probably ask Rosethorn first. I don't know if she has anything planned or not." She took off toward the nursery and was back in only a few minutes. "She said shes too busy with her kits. Let's go!" She smiled at Winterleaf, finding it amazing that Riverclan's deputy would want to take her hunting.

Winterleaf grinned. She flicked her tail and ventured Sparklepaw to follow her as she dove into the river, smoothly splashing water to the grass. Her paws biffed over the water as the mottled she-cat reached the other shore, her gaze directed to the path that lead to the forest. "Come, there's a great hunting spot near by" she shouted to the apprentice.

Sparklepaw hesitantly dipped a fore-paw in the water before she jumped in for the first time. At first the cold water drenching her fur and chilling her skin made her gasp, but it warmed quickly and she paddled happily to the other side. Her paws touched ground and her claws instinctively unsheathed themselves to grab hold of the sand and pull herself out of the water. She shook the clinging liquid off of her fur, and when she ran after Winterleaf, the only sign she had even crossed the river was damp fur.
