Sparklestorm sat by the river, tail curled tightly around her gray fur as she waited for some poor fish to swim by. She was careful not to make a sound so she wouldn't scare them away, and she kept her sharp blue eyes constantly open and alert. Even the cry of some far away bird didn't startle her as it normally would, although her ear did swivel for a moment to catch the sound before turning back to face the river. The clear, streaming water beckoned her to jump in for a little swim, but she would do that later. Getting food for her clan was first on the list.
Fishing had never been a problem for her, even as a young apprentice. She guessed that was because she was RiverClan and her clan had a reputation for fishing. Therefore, she was only upholding her clan's reputation by being good at what they were known for, so it wasn't any special skill that she could brag about. She was pulled out of this train of thought as a flash of silver flew by and her paw instinctively darted out to grab it without her mind being aware of the action, but she was grateful for this instinct as she pulled out a wriggling fish hooked on one sharp claw. Dropping it on the ground beside her, she turned back to wait patiently again.
The kits in her swollen belly kicked again and she was momentarily distracted by the twinge of pain she felt before she soothed it by softly dragging her tongue over the spot, hoping to somehow talk the kittens down from play-fighting before birth. Her plan was thwarted, however, when they ignored her soothing touch and continued to kick her anyways. Giving up for the time being, she laid down and stretched out on her side, basking in the sunlight as she waited out the kits. She hoped they would stop soon; the four fish she had got would bake in this hot sunlight if she didn't carry them back to camp soon. She knew she had no hope of doing so until the kits let up their attack, so she stayed put.
Her mind suddenly wished she had her mate, former Thunderclanner Ambercloud, with her. He always seemed to understand and would soothe her during these moments of pain. She figured he was out on a patrol...and she was happy for him. RiverClan was beginning to accept him, although they would never fully because of his birthplace, and she knew he was proud inside although he would always miss ThunderClan. She pictured him in her head as she laid in the sun, and it seemed to help for the time being.
