Shrikekit rushed towards the nursery his pelt fluffed with fright, he was not even inside the nursery when he started to wail, "Mom! mom! Some mean Riverclan cats were inside our territory, I tried to stop them, but one of them told me to go and that if I told someone Tigerstar would take me!"

Brightleaf wrapped her tail around his body, "Shh, it's ok. Tigerstar is dead, plus why were you listening to RiverClan cats anyway?" She hid her doubts that there was another cat like Tigerstar in this very Clan... Her jaw had mended but she was asked a lot of questions about it. Brightleaf had told her kits not to say a word.

Shrikekit snuggled against her mother, "But those two Riverclan apprentices were on our territory!" He shrieked, "I tried to take them on, because I am biiig and strong! but then the mean she-cat insulted me!" When he stopped he looked at mom with a puzzled expression, "but couldn't Tigerstar come back?"

Brightleaf purred, but it sounded hoarse and unused, "No Tigerstar can't come back. Don't worry."
Raykit came bounding out of the nursery, only to stop and silently look at his mother. His eyes were expressionless.

"Oh.." Was the only thing Shrikekit said, he gave his mom an affectionate lick, but as soon as Raykit entered he jumped away and pretended to be the tough kit he always seemed. "What are you doing Raykit?" He meowed narrowing his blue eyes.

"Nothing." Raykit meowed as he continued looking at Brightleaf. The kit stayed quiet for a few moments before blurting out loudly, "Why don't you do something? You know he's treating you wrong!" There was fury in the small kits voice.
Brightleaf looked down, even though her kits had a right to know, she had no way of explaining.

Shrikekit gazed with confusion as his brother yelled... the look of confusion banished and her blue eyes shadowed. "So that was what you didn't tell me!" He meowed at Raykit angrily. He too had suspected about his father, but he too had his fierce blood running through his veins.

"I didn't tell you because I was scared. Now I'm not, Flamekit, Sunkit, and Dapplekit know about father. Silverkit is the only one who doesnt know and I don't want to hurt her. So, why don't you tell someone?" He repeated to his mother.
Brightleaf looked into Raykit's eyes, "Don't talk to me like that. I am your mother, show some respect and do not repeat what you just said." But the voice that said those words sounded small and feeble.

"Oh, you have the bravery of a mouse Raykit!" Shrikekit meowed with a fierce expression on his face, "Leave mom alone! Don't you see? what can she or we or anyone do about it!? He is our father." The kit meowed with extreme irritation.

Raykit remained silent. But how long can this go on without someone finding out? What if the worst happens? He then saw his mother get up and proudly walk away, as if she where in a shell that was braver then herself. "What... what are we gonna do?"

Shrikekit shrugged and sat down. "You cannot help everyone with their problems.. they are only theirs." He meowed with such selfishness that it may have disgusted anybody. He looked at her mom as she walked away from the nursery and the kit sighed. But this is different she is our mom.. His thoughts battled between selfishness and the tender feeling he had for his mother.
