Ashpaw’s eyes widened with wonder and fear at once. She gazed at the black path wondering how it could be so horrible .she opened her mouth to draw in the acrid breeze that brushed there way, and the awful sent imprinted her glands. "Whoa. What is that?” she asked cautiously and quietly as though waiting for it to leap out at her if she were any louder. “Can I touch it?” she asked, curiosity once again taking over, her blue green eyes wide and deep taking in this new creature.

"Whatever you do, don't go near it unless I tell you it's safe," meowed Thistleclaw. Just then, a hugh silvery monster came rushing past, gleaming in the light. It left a trail of smug behind it, that made Thistleclaw cough. "Be especially cautious around those," he meowed almost fiercly. He looked back and forth across the Thunderpath, making sure that no monsters were coming. "You may thouch it now," he meowed quitely to Ashpaw. "But be quick, and if I tell you to run back to me, you run back to me right away. If you hear anything coming, step back if you want to stay safe."

Ashpaw listened shakily. She loved to feel thrilled! She stared at the black path questioning Thistleclaw’s treacherous tone, but trusted him more than anyone else. If Thistleclaw said it was unsafe, it was unsafe. As she spoke in her mind, she felt a slight rumbling under her paws, and a huge monster streaked by at an incredible speed. Ashpaw yowled and sprang back at its frightening mass, and after her terrified shriek huddled down closer and lower to Thistleclaw, comforted by his presents. Ashpaw herd Thistleclaw’s words 'you may touch it now' almost with dread, but once again her adventurous spirit took over and she began to silently and cautiously creep towards the edge. She could still taste the putrid smell of the silver monster. Ashpaw nodded showing Thistleclaw that she would return when he gave the word. Slowly she reached out a paw and lightly touched it. Almost as if it were she own Fault the deep rumbling returned to the earth.

"Step back now," cautioned Thistleclaw to his apprentice. She was dear to him, and if anything ever happened to her, he would be sure to blame himself. When Ashpaw was back by his side, he looked at her and meowed " ShadowClan lies right on the other side of the Thunderpath, and this is the closest we can get without tresspassing on their territory. Can you smell anything besides the Thunderpath?"

At Thistleclaw’s caution Ashpaw stepped back immediately and crept to her mentors side. She then shuddered, and opened her mouth to draw in the sent again. And, just as Thistleclaw had said, she could smell the cats from Shadowclan.”I do smell them!" She said proudly, for she had thought that the Thunderpath would have masked there strange sent.” they smell funny too." she added once more. It seemed as her tour of the territories went on the weirder there scents became.

"Yes, they do smell a bit strange," meowed Thistleclaw, wrinkling his nose. "I remember the first time I smelled ShadowClan scent. Don't worry, you'll get used to it over time." Then, looking deep into the dark tree that lined the other side of the Thunderpath, he meowed, "ShadowClan warriors are fierce, and some are treacherous. Many of the evil cats of the forest can trace their roots back so ShadowClan. Still, they are loyal, and it is good to have a ShadowClan cat on your side. Just be sure to watch you back when you are with them," he cautioned. "That was well-scented," meowed Thistleclaw, changing his tone. "Not all young cats would be able to smell the scent of cats over the smell of the thunderpath."

Ashpaw directed her deep blue green gaze into Thistleclaw’s hazel eyes. Shadowclan sounded powerful, and dark. She wanted so much to meet one, so she spoke her thoughts.” Can we go and visit one?” she asked playfully and half joking .But part of her new that it wasn’t , she felt like she was tempting something dangerous, and odly, she loved the feeling.
Ashpaw beamed with pleasure at Thistleclaw’s praise. “Thanks!" she mewed brightly.

"Maybe another day," laughed Thistleclaw, remembering the days when he and his friends would dare each other to talk to ShadowClan cats. "When you go to a gathering there will be plenty of ShadowClan cats to meet. In the meantime, we still have to head over to the RiverClan border. I think you'll find it very fun." Thistleclaw smiled, already seeing himself telling Ashpaw about the swimming cats of RiverClan.

"A gathering! Great! I can’t wait!" Shouted Ashpaw, unable to control the volume her voice, which was drenched in a mixture of enthusiasm and excitement. “When can I go to a gathering?” She wondered allowed. But she left the topic the moment she herd ‘have fun at the Riverclan border’. “What are we going to do?” She had had so much fun today already that she wondered what it would possibly be like. And already her mind was concocting all sorts of questions anticipating an answer. ‘But I will save them for the boarder’ she thought hastily .She then straightened up and waited for further instructions from Thistleclaw, trying to hide the large foolish smile that stayed fixed upon her face.
