Poppypaw thought what it meant. 'I am who I am, the sky, wind and sea. I dance with the moonlight, but who am I? Who must I be?' Minnowwhisker and Hollyclaw's soft words carresed Poppypaw's mind. I am who I am... what can it mean? Well, I guess it's a bit obvious what it means. But it sparks a terrible thought of just not knowing. 'I guess I should move on.' The sky, wind and sea...' I just dont get it... 'Mother, father, why? Why did you leave me?'

The wind was blowing softly as Sleekstep left camp. The quiet coo of blowing leaves and creaking branches did nothing to cover up the sound of the mentor stepping on the brittle leaves that covered the ground. It was steadily cooling outside, a challanging time to become an apprentice. Food would soon grow scarce and Sleekstep was worried she wouldn't be able to teach Poppypaw how to catch everything that lived in their territory before the winter snows came. While these thoughts swirled in her black head, Sleekstep smelt Poppypaw. She turned and headed in her apprentice's direction, leaves still crunching loudly under her paws. A moment later and Poppypaw sat before her, lost in thought. She looked sad and lonely, and suddenly the winter snows seemed to matter little to her mentor. "Poppypaw," she said soothingly, sitting next to her apprentice, "why are you out here all by yourself?"

"I miss mum and dad.." Poppypaw whined.

An understanding expression passed over Sleekstep's beautiful face. She licked her sad apprentice reasuringly on the cheek and said, "They loved you. I'm sure they wouldn't want you to be sad." She sat quietly, thinking. Sleekstep hoped what she had said would help Poppypaw feel less sad. "You know," she meowed, nudging her young apprentice's shoulder, "I bet a nice long run would make you feel better. When my mind is working in overdrive worrying or feeling sorry it helps to make my body work just as much."
