He glanced around wildly. Thrashing in his sleep. Cats, fighting, blood, spilling. The gray and white tom awoke. Eyes of amber locked onto the ground. The Shadowclan warrior had fallen asleep by the Riverclan border. Heaving for breath. He lay motionless for a few moments. All to familiar with the dream of habit. He hadn't had it as often the past moons. But he couldn't help and wonder, what if Starclan was telling him his clan would fight? Sure, Shadowclan had a few ex rogues. But they wouldn't start a fight...right? Maybe Rosethorn would bring their kits. Ah, that would be grand. To finally see them. But no, surely they weren't warriors yet? Longclaw dreaded the day he and Rosethorn would tell them.

Rosethorn knew that she needed to talk to Longclaw. As much as she dreaded doing so, with his new position and all, she knew that they needed to clear things up. She hoped that he would be at their meeting place, and her hopes proved right. "Longclaw..." she whispered. She hadn't heard him at first when she arrived, but now she could hear his breathing. She wanted to tell him all about their kits, how big they were getting, that they would become apprentices very soon, but she couldn't. She couldn't make this any harder on him. She loved him too much to hurt him. She could hear her breath becoming faster with fear. Fear for him, not herself.

Awoken from his daydream. He heard grass rustle, about to call out. He heard such a familiar voice. "Rosethorn." He meowed, tenderness in his gruff voice. He broke from his hiding spot. Almost panicky, Longclaw rushed over to her. "Nothings gonna change..." He meowed softly. Pushing his muzzle in hers. His deep amber eyes searched her over. "How are you? How are our kits?" He asked softly, sitting back. Taking in the face he rarely saw anymore. Love such a painful emotion, if this code had never been made... Longclaw awaited her responses. His tail twitching more then it ever had. Worry in his eyes, worry for her.

"They are fine as am I. But, I'm worried for you," Rosethorn said in a hushed voice. She looked up to him, trying to meet his gaze. Her eyes were heavy, filled with sorrow and pain. "How can you be so sure that things won't change? You're the deputy now," she managed to choke out. Her voice was even, but that was only through great effort on her part. "I'm happy for you, I really am. But I can't have you having torn loyalties. It's not fair for you." She felt so guilty. Maybe if she had taken his orginal advice when they had first met... No, then she would never know how much she loved him. It was her fault that he was suffering like this.

Longclaw purred at her concerns. Glad they weren't drifting apart. "Because I won't let it. Nothing will change, We'll have less time together. But other than that..." He meowed sternly. His amber eyes hard on her, willing her to understand. "This is hard for both of us. You must understand, And it is fair to me. I get to see your face, I get to know my kits are content. That is all I'll ever need. As long as I am able to meet to over and over again." He said sharply. His eyes searching over his gorgous tabby face. Love filled his whole being. Longclaw couldn't be happier, just to stare into her face. OOC: *pokes* In case you haven't heard, Duskkit was killed by a Shadowclan warrior. Here's the post.

"I trust you and I love you. I can only hope that that is enough. But, there is something you should know. Duskkit..." she said sadly as she looked up. She knew that he would be unhapy to hear that one of his daughters would never be able to know the truth. She was gone. It was tragic. She couldn't bring hersef to say the words to her beloved. She had one daughter left, Mottledkit, and she was determined to not let anything happen to her. She blamed herself a little for what had happened. If she had paid more attention to her kits and had been a better mother...

Longclaw's face took on a confused look. "What happened to her?" He asked softly. By the look she had it wasn't good. He pushed his muzzle into her neck fur. "It's ok...I know it wasn't your fault." He meowed knowing her look all to well. His ears flicked back and forth. Ever wary of patrolling cats. A newly named deputy comforting a Riverclan warrior...He'd be exiled before he could speak. Even if he wanted to be with Rosethorn, he wanted to be loyal to his birth clan. Or try to help them.

Rosethorn's tail twitched. "But it is. She was supposed to be with me, and if I had been keeping an eye on her... How this be so easy for you? Not Duskkit, but betraying your Clan? You were the one who said that it would never work out, and yet here you are telling me that we can be together?" she sobbed. She had already grieved for Duskkit, but had yet to grieve for Longclaw. nothing mattered more to her than him and their kits, other than her Clan.

Oh how he yearned just to spill out all his worries. But it seemed she had enough to worry about. "Because I know I won't let anything change. Deputy is basically the same as being a warrior. Rosethorn, it will never have been your fault. It could have happened to any kit." He meowed softly and yet firmly. Not wanting to voice his fear that maybe it was a sign Starclan was angry. But that would only add to his beloved's worries. Though he could lie, his eyes could not hide the true pain he was feeling. Knowing that soon, the deputy and the queen would have to break off and wait for a moon or two before meeting. Knowing that he would not see her but in Gatherings. He searched her face wearily, wanting to remember every last detail. He didn't like this way of life, Secrecy, lies, and betrayal to the code. It was exactly what Shadowclan warriors were thought to do all the time. Break the code, kill, lie, and have secrets. Apparently she chose the right cat, if she wanted to represent Shadowclan like it was already thought.

Rosethorn knew that Longclaw was being much too sweet. She knew that it was out of his intense love for her that he couldn't be any sweeter. "You're right," she mewed. She knew that being loyal to one's clan was supposed to be the highest priority for a warrior, and Rosethorn wanted Longclaw to be the best deputy in the forest and make his Clan strong. "We must not meet again. At least for a while, anyway. You must prove yourself as a strong deputy before anything gets out," she nodded. Her whiskers twitched in anticipation.

His eye dulled out for a moment. Feeling deep sorrow at parting again. "Take care of yourself..." He wnated to say more. But his mouth would not open a second time. The young deputy turned and fled the border. His long legs carrying him swiftly to the nearest water. With ease he purged the scent of Riverclan. Catching a few fish, he raced back to camp. His mind cluttered with sorrows, sorrows he could not express. Sorrows that would reveal all. He gritted his fangs, knowing he couldn't trust any cat in Shadowclan. No matter how close he came to them.

Rosethorn could feel like something was incredibly wrong between them. "Goodbye, my love." She turned her back and began her way to the RiverClan camp. She knew that there was something distant between them, like she was doing something incredibly awful to make him more distant. It must be the fact that she lost one of their kits. She was dead set on protecting her other kits, no matter what the cost.
