Hawkpaw dodged his oncoming attacker with swift precision, but just barely. Though the force of the rush nearly knocked him off his feet. He was up and ready aiming a swipe for his mentor’s side before hastening out of the way of another blow. He focus most of his energy on escaping the vicious blows, weaving and dodging in an attempt to tier the larger cat out. A swipe reached its mark, sending him sprawling. He realize he could not match this cat in strength, that much was certain, so he tried this different tactic to try to overcome Darkstep. He was back on his feet again eyeing his mentor’s next move, though he began to feel himself getting weary, but he shook the feeling away agitated, still watching his mentor with bright eyes.

Darkwing felt himself beginning to pant, nodding in a congratulatory movement at Hawkpaw's good strategy. "Good," he mewed, side-stepping out of the way. "Very good. You've learned well, young one, and that I am proud to know that I may be able to teach you my most secretive moves." Darkwing let the thought sink in, but seeing it had no effect, gave another observation: "My old apprentice, Gorsefur, who died a while back, not even I gave him my secret moves. Hawkpaw, I entrust these secrets with only an apprentice who I believe may be ready to learn. Are you willing?"

Breezepaw's eyes narrowed thoughtfully, she had been quiet all time during the training trying to absorb every movement the wise mentor and deputy thought to her friend. She gave a soft mew from where she sat to remind them that she was there, her pelt started bristling in embarrassment, and she wasn't sure that she should be there. Breezepaw looked questioningly at the deputy and her mentor and then lowered her head, her eyes fixed on her paws, waiting for an order.

Darkwing riveted his attention from Hawkpaw to Breezepaw, gren eyes narrowing. "I know you're here," he mewed curtly, trying his best to find a way to put the she-cat into his training. "Patience and logic are the best weapons for a warrior to use. Hawkpaw, go sit down." While his apprentice had situated himself, Darkwing curled his tails around his paws, straining his throat. "I am going to throw out possible scenerios, and then I want one of you to give me the best answer on how to deal with them. Breezepaw, I'm an enemy ShadowClan warrior who has just crossed well inside the territory lines. If you were alone, how would you handle it?"

Breezepaw felt her heart tighten, she muttered something shyly but it was to low looked thoughtfully again, she thought of answering to attack, but she knew she was an inexperienced apprentice so she mewed softly and uncertainly, "I would sneak to the camp to let the others know of the intruder's presence, or I would track the trespasser if there are good conditions so I cannot be scented... and then go report it to the clan?" She finished awkwardly.

Hawkpaw watched intently, his tail lashing impatiently. He occupied himself at the thought of what he would do in a situation like Darkwing had described a smile stretched across his face at the trust his mentor had in him. He flexed his paws and thought, half grumbling. He promptly turned his attention to the moves Darkwing might teach him. He rumbled a small growl of excitement, his piercing eyes blazing. He eyed his mentor and his friend Breezepaw still intent on hearing her answer. He stretched, flexing his fiery red body, letting the sun light soak thoroughly through his pelt giving him a content feeling.

Darkwing listened to Breezepaw's awkward answer, putting up his tail to calm Hawkpaw while he waited. When she finished, the deputy made a note of her well mannered patience...however, her shyness may lose her some fighting. Darkwing slowly shook his head, straightening. "Not precisely. For one thing, if the ShadowClan cat is coming out in clear view, there must be a reason. Confront the warrior, but don't betray anything of your rank: apprentice, warrior, queen, nothing. Firmly ask why he or she may be in or territory, and come back immediatley for a warrior."

Breezepaw nodded slightly and fixed her pale olive green eyes on her paws, she scuffled them with the grass, embarrassment clearly showing in her attitude. Then she traveled her eyes to the deputy and mentor again, giving a little more confident nod.

Darkwing returned the nod before looking over at Hawkpaw, already wondering how he may answer his next question. "Hmm, let's do a more detailed one... You see a rival Clan queen wondering into our territory with her kits. She's thin and matted and her kits are moments from collapsing. What will you do?" It was only until after the question til Darkwing realized what he said.

Hawkpaw sat staring awkwardly at his mentor, startled be the question. He froze, and his fiery features turned solemn an serious. “I would help her of course!” He yowled passionately. He sat for a moment wondering if the answer he had said was the best choice. “Its obvious she would need assistance maybe even medical attention, I mean, any decent cat would help her!” He tried to conceal the fact that all of his thoughts were on the beautiful RiverClan she-cat, Silvertip. His encounter with the cat along with her kits flashed newly in his memories. He attempted to mask his feelings with hard eyes and a grave stare. He fidgeted before giving a stare back at Darkwing with defiant eyes.

Darkwing returned the gaze just as forcefully. He knew, from the signs Skyheart gave him. "Excellant. That's exactly what you would do." Darkwing looked back over to Breezepaw, not longer willing to continue a future lecture he may have with Hawkpaw later. "All right. You think you can spot a family of badgers living within the territory. They are advancing quite close to camp, and they may be very dangerous. What do you do?"

Breezepaw saw the reaction of both cats and knew what they had been thinking, her eyes darkened a little at the thought of it. She shook her head a slightly, any signs of shyness gone. She looked up at the deputy and answered in her still quiet tone, "I would alert the clan and wait for the final decision of our leader which provably would be move to another place while the danger passes, at least I don't think we can take on badgers..." She mewed traveling her gaze to her paws, "and help everyone out of the camp," She hesitated and then added, "Especially kits and queens... and elders." She finished looking distractedly at nowhere in particular.

Hawkpaw, still unnerved by his mentors seemingly planned question. What did he mean by that? He wondered gravely. Inside he knew he should not dwell on the thought but it still gave him an unsettled feeling, as if there was more to be learned. He mulled it over in his thoughts but it seemed untouchable. And that frustrated him. He exited his thought to her Breezepaw’s answer. He nodded swiftly agreeing with her answer, giving her and encouraging shove. His previous answer had turned out correct, and it filled him with a little pride. But questions haunted his flaming gaze though determined not to show it.

Darkwing kept his gaze still firmly on Hawkpaw, trying to comprehend his movements and facial expressions for anything. It was a hard decision, putting all this pressure on his apprentice, but it was for the better. WindClan didn't need Clan divisions right now. They were beginning to thrive, and hostile nature would be bad for them. After Breezepaw had finished, he nodded gratefully. "Excellant. That's what a smart warrior would do." A new question, to Hawkpaw. "Here's a battle tactic question: Because you are an apprentice, I'm a rival warrior who doesn't think you stand a chance. I use a poor stealth crouch, and try to lunge at your back. What do you do?"
