Well, close to it, at least, mused the onyx apprentice as he treaded on the thin border between Shadowclan and Windclan. Crimson eyes shone through the darkness, watching for any signs of life from the other clan. He hadn't been ordered on patrol, and would probably get in trouble if caught here, but his curiosity once again surpassed his caution. Pantherpaw lept on top of a small, fallen oak tree, his great tail flicking in the shallow moonlight.
With a happy yowl, quiet but commanding, he yowled, "All cats of Shadowclan, gather here below me!" He chuckled, knowing that he was dreaming of a world that would never come. And although no cat would come...although he was only an apprentice, he had never felt so free as he did at that moment. Prehaps, someday, he would become a clan leader...a Shadowclan leader. Someday he will be strong, but graceful, and not ugly and mis-sized. He would grow into his paws, litterly.
"I will, one day, be Pantherstar. I know it. Someday..."

Nightclaw crept up to the rabbit. She didn't think she had ever gotten this close without one noticing her. "This must be my lucky day," She thought. Nightclaw bunched up her haunches, and just before she took her killing pounce, a holler broke the silence, and the rabbit raced away. "What in StarClan was that?" She meowed to herself. She padded through the grass following where the noise had come from, when she came to the ShadowClan border, and saw a scrawny ShadowClan apprentice standing on a fallen tree, with a look of dignity... "Well, what do we have here? Could it perhaps be that cat, that's howl ruined my hunt!" Nightclaw demanded.

The onyx-colored apprentice, who's large paws were much too big for his body, whipped his head around, his crimson eyes going to the warrior from Windclan. "Prehaps you shouldn't have been hunting so close to Shadowclan border, then. Or maybe you should have caught your prey quicker." Came the insult, as the black apprentice straightened himself, trying to look more important then he was. His graceful tail flicked over the rock, and he blinked.

Nightclaw howled in protest, "How dare you insult me!" Her neck fur began to bristle. She had always been touchy and easily offended when it came to comments on her skills, that she had worked so hard to master ever since she had joined WindClan. "Why should I care what he thinks?" She blushed when she realized that she had said that outloud.
((if cats CAN blush... lol))

"Someones a little touchy." Pantherpaw said, his voice bored, as if he didn't really care. He jumped down from the log he sat on, and walked closer to the border, his eyes never leaving the she-cat warrior. His ears twitched slightly at Nightclaw's words, and he laughed. It wasn't a mocking laugh, though, it was a normal laugh. "Thats right." He nodded, eyes sparkling now. "You shouldn't care what I think. I'm not from your clan, therefore my opinions don't matter." There was a bit of bitterness in his voice as he said this. Sometimes, it felt like his opinion never mattered.

Nightclaw nodded, almost as if to assure herself that the ShadowClan apprentice was right... but it mattered what her clan mates thought of her. She sighed heavily. "What was that bitterness i heard?" She asked, trying to distract herself.

Pantherpaw chuckled, blinking slightly. This she-cat had caught that, eh? Well, he supposed he hadn't hidden it well. It had been a quick, but fierce, minute of bitterness. "So, whats your name, Windclan cat? I'm Pantherpaw." He said, changing the subject quickly.

"Nightclaw", she answered briskly. "Your name suits you." She commented, though after she wondered if it had been the right thing to say; she didn't want him to think she was too mean!

"No, it doesn't." Pantherpaw said automatically, his tail twitching. "I mean, it doesn't fit me. Theres nothing panther-like about me, I'm not graceful...prehaps it matches my paws. And maybe my color, but otherwise...its a poor name. But thats ok! Because someday, it will fit me. Someday I'll be the most graceful cat in the forest. I'll be big enough to scare any cat who goes against me." Pantherpaw laughed, his eyes glittering. "But thats a long ways away. I'm only an apprentice right now. But I'm rambling." He realized, immediatly shutting up. His tail twitched again, in annoyence at himself.

Nightclaw stiffled a laugh. She thought about what Pantherpaw had said, and realized that she admired him for his ambition. "Well if you do eventually grow into your paws, i sure hope i don't meet you in battle!" Nightclaw tried to brighten the conversation. But for now, his paws are cute, she thought. At least for a ShadowClan apprentice! she added, trying not to be too nice, even though no one could read her thoughts.

Dragonflower heard meows close to the windclan border. I wonder what Wind clan is up to now, she thought as she grumpily padded toward the border. When she got close enogh, she saw Pantherpaw and a Wind clan she-cat. She bursted out of the shadows and snarled to the Shadowclan apprentice, "Do you know this filthy Windclanner?" Then she turned to face the she-cat while waiting for Pantherpaw's reply.

Nightclaw was taken aback by this cat's sudden appearence. She hadn't even heard, none the less smelled the she-cat approach them. Nightclaw made a mental note to be more on guard, and she glanced questioningly ((is that a word? oh well, you probably know what i meant)) at the ShadowClan apprentice wondering what he would say.

Pantherpaw purred slightly, feeling a bit better about himself. Her words, he realized, where true, in some sense. He would be the best warrior in his clan, one day! All he had to do was train when his time came, and keep himself from getting into any trouble. Of course, this second step came crashing down around his ears as a yowl split the air, and Dragonflower burst into the area. Instantly he was on his guard, arching his back into the air.
"No! I mean, I've just met her now. I've never seen her before...Ever!" He meowed desperatly, his ears pinning down on his head.

"You have no reason to fear Dragonflower" Nightclaw meowed. "This apprentice and i have never seen each other previous to now, and he has not revealed any ShadowClan secrets." she added. She felt a pang of sympathy for Pantherpaw. She didn't want him to get in trouble for talking to her.

Dragonflower's tail lashed with impacince. " We will see about that, I will trust your words if he told any secrets about Shadowclan when he proves him self as a worthy Shadowclanner." Then she snarled," Why do you think i have a reson to fear, you discusting Windclanner?"
